Nothing to set up and nothing to sign into. Four steps, and every cover you ever want is one click away.

  1. Pin the icon. Chrome hides new extensions under the puzzle piece in the toolbar. Open it and press the pin.
  2. Open a video — or just copy its link. watch, youtu.be, shorts, embed and live addresses all work.
  3. Click the icon. The open tab is filled in for you. No video open? Paste the link into the field.
  4. Pick a size, press Download. Max resolution is preselected; sizes the video does not have are greyed out.
Open YouTube Already have a video open? Switch to that tab — the link is picked up automatically.

2 — click it on any video. The largest size that really exists is picked for you.

When there is no 1280×720

YouTube generates maxresdefault only for uploads that were large enough to begin with. Older videos often stop at 640×480. The panel checks every address before it offers it, so a missing size is greyed out instead of downloading as a broken file.

No video open? Paste a link

The field takes a link in any shape — watch, youtu.be, shorts, embed, live, or the bare video id. You never have to load the clip to get its cover.

Where the files go

Into your normal downloads folder, named after the video with the size written next to it — so maxresdefault and sddefault of the same clip never collide.
